Apply for the Intrepid News Fund
Announcing our first funding cycle for 2018. Thanks to our generous donors and a successful prototype news delegation in May, The Intrepid News Fund is proud to announce its first funding cycle for 2018. A $3,000 grant will be awarded October 15, 2018. Proposals can be submitted August 1 through September 30, 2018. Let us know what story you want to tell from Latin America and The Caribbean.
The Intrepid News Fund promotes journalism focusing on under-reported news and human interest stories from Latin America. We accomplish this by funding travel, ground and research costs for independent journalists. Our funding is non-biased and seeks to challenge and encourage broader U.S. mainstream media coverage of the Americas.
Our funding does not seek to influence the reporting and writing. We select projects based on a reporters’ history and the content of each proposal submitted.
Our Review Panel will assess proposals which include:
A Cover Letter: Briefly tell us about yourself, your journalism experience in Latin America and why your story needs to be told.
A Query: In about one typed page, single spaced, suggest a story idea(s) from Latin America and the Caribbean that needs to be told in North America. Include a working timeline and an editor’s assignment letter. When published and/or broadcast, your story must mention it has been funded in whole, or in part, by a grant provided by The Intrepid News Fund.
A Budget: Outline total project costs. Please disclose any additional outside funding you have obtained and/or are pursuing. $1,500 will be given at the time the grant is awarded; the remaining $1,500 will be disbursed when the story is published and/or broadcast.
Proposals should be e-mailed to: email@example.com
Cover letters should be included as text in the body of the e-mail. Queries and Budgets should be attached as two individual Word documents.
We will acknowledge receipt of each proposal. No proposals for our second grant opportunity will be accepted after midnight, September 30, 2018.
